Human Hair Wig Care
Washing Human Hair Wigs or Hairpieces
Before shampooing your human hair wig, gently use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove any tangles. If the hair is excessively tangled, try using a spray on conditioner like a wig luster or water in a bottle to smooth out hair.
Never fully immerse a human hair wig in water. It will cause the hair to swell up and tangle and ruin your wig!!
Always first lightly mist the hair with warm water in spray bottle, then you can immerse later in water. This will prevent matting of the hair which can be very difficult to remedy.
Only use a mild shampoo, one that is formulated for chemically treated or processed hair. A formulated wig shampoo is always best. Do not use over the counter products or salon products that are not designed for wigs.
Run the hair under warm water or place the wig into a small sink or basin. Take a small amount of shampoo (about 2 table spoons), and work it gently into the hair. Do not twist scrub or rub the hair. Use the shampoo sparingly. Let soak for a few minutes in the water, then rinse thoroughly under running water until all of the shampoo is removed.
Conditioning Your Human Hair Wig
Leave in Spray Conditioner is the best for wigs however, rinse also can be used. Place a small amount (1 table spoon) of conditioner in your hand. Gently work the conditioner into the wet hair and let sit for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly in warm water. Soak the wig in plain warm water if you have must to ensure all of the conditioner is out of the wig.
Take a towel and dampen out the excess water. While the hair is still slight wet, take a wide toothed comb and comb the hair while holding it at the root to remove any tangles. Never use a bristle brush or brush the hair when wet as it can pull or break the hair.
Hang the wig to dry or lay it flat on a towel to dry.(Recommended for curly or wavy wigs) You may also set the hair in rollers on while pinned to a mannequin head.
Straight haired wigs become wavy once washed. If you want the hair to be straight again, simply use a blow dryer on a low setting and comb through to straighten the hair. You may also use a straight iron on a low setting to press the hair.
